Our Mission Statement is very important to us and a vital part of how we structure our daily activities.
It is as follows: “Son” Shine Learning Center Weekday Preschool is a mission of First Baptist Church. We are committed to providing children with a safe and nurturing environment while guiding them to a strong sense of self and gentle Christian conscience through creative arts, music, and age-appropriate curriculum.
At the very core of SonShine Learning Center is a desire to see children grow in their understanding of God’s love and the love they can show their neighbors.
SonShine Learning Center seeks to be a place where each child is valued for who they are. By experiencing warmth and welcome in the classroom, children are gently introduced to the many ways we can be caring members of a larger community.
This engagement extends beyond the school day. Throughout the year, there are opportunities to support community ministries and programs. By donating to Bright Futures, participating in the White Christmas program at First Baptist, and providing items for our homeless neighbors through the area’s WATTS program, we can make a positive difference in the lives of our neighbors.
Our classrooms are large, which allows each student the opportunity to make choices, explore with their whole bodies, and learn through play.
Our teachers all have experience and passion for early education. We understand what
will be expected of our students and make sure they’re ready for the next step. Our
learning goals are always age-appropriate. The SLC staff understands exactly what
early learning is being accomplished, even when the students think they’re just having
fun!
While SonShine Learning Center has over 40 years of early education experience, our
program always pushes to meet the needs of now. Most recently, we have upgraded
“Block World,” a special room where children can work on early math and reading skills by building, telling a story with puppets, or trying out new jobs through dress-up. We have also added two school-wide STEAM events per school year. Students of SLC also
enjoy several school-wide assemblies. During these assemblies, we partner with the
local library and even welcome local musicians!
This time in your child’s life is incredibly important, and it is a privilege to share in that
time with our SLC families! We look forward to finding new ways to support our families and ignite an early love of learning. Thank you for sharing these early years with us at SonShine Learning Center!
